Less than an hour from Governor Wanda Vázquez having presented the new executive order —which will be in force until July 31— hotels across the island had received over 50 cancellations, said Clarissa Jiménez, executive director of the Association of Hotels and Tourism. Cancellations was not only limited to hotels, but was also magnified in the island’s Paradores (Inns).

“Our economy fell to the ground, this new order totally stops it. Today there are paradores that already have 90 cancellations after the announcement, because what is the cost of paying a hostelry and not being able to enjoy its facilities such as swimming pools, restaurants at night or the beaches.
