The Census Bureau of the United States reveals that among the towns with less population on the island are the islands of Vieques and Culebra. Both islands have been in a transport crisis for years, which makes moving their residents to the big island increasingly difficult. Similarly, they have faced challenges with their main health centers following the passage of Hurricane Maria in 2017.

Below are the seven municipalities with the lowest population rate in Puerto Rico:

  1. Culebra: 1,494 inhabitants
  2. Maricao: 6,180 inhabitants
  3. Las Marías: 8,874 inhabitants
  4. Vieques: 8,931 inhabitants
  5. Florida: 12,140 inhabitants
  6. Rincon: 14,526 inhabitants
  7. Jayuya: 15,297 inhabitants
