Since the forced forced closure of businesses began under the government’s curfew, approximately 1,500 Palmas del Mar employees have been laid off due to work stoppages at the largest tourist-residential complex on the island.

At the moment, the manager explained, all the hotels in Palmas del Mar are closed. Among them, Wyndham Candelero Beach Resort, which has about 150 workers; Club Cala, with 100; and Plaza Suites, with at least 50. The short-term rental program, one of the largest assets in the area, has also relieved 300 people of its functions.

Likewise, the 17 restaurants located within the complex have temporarily laid off an estimated 200 employees due to the closings. Some of the establishments continue with limited food collection or delivery services.
